Method for producing mixing assembly in automobile industry, involves pressing joining tool on component with pressure, and rotating joining tool with rotation speed such that another component is plastified in area to be connected
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method for joining a metal component and a fiber-reinforced plastic component in automotive manufacturing. The process involves pressing and rotating a special tool at the connection point, causing the plastic component to soften (plastify) and bond securely to the metal component.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Automobile manufacturing, especially for lightweight hybrid assemblies combining metal and plastic parts
- Production of vehicle body parts where strong, mixed-material bonds are needed
- Assembly of other transportation equipment such as trains or aircraft requiring both metal and fiber-reinforced plastic components
- General industrial manufacturing involving joining metal to fiber-reinforced plastics
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Creates strong, reliable bonds between metal and plastic components
- Enables the use of lightweight materials in vehicle construction, contributing to fuel efficiency and reduced emissions
- Reduces the need for additional adhesives or fasteners, simplifying assembly processes
- Improves manufacturing efficiency and potential automation by using a tool-based joining method
- Allows for innovative design of multi-material structures with improved performance characteristics

Patent Abstract
The method involves arranging two components (2, 3) together or on top of each other at an area (9) to be connected. A tool i.e. deformation-resistant joining tool (4), is penetrated into the two components by rotating around an axis (A). A joining tool is pressed on one of the components with pressure during penetrating process and is rotated with a rotation speed (Vrot) such that the other component is plastified in the area to be connected. The two components are designed as a metal component and a plastic component, respectively. The plastic component is made of fiber-reinforced plastic. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a deforming tool for deforming an edge of a sleeve (2) a tool for manufacturing a mixing assembly from two components.
