Contact-less on-line measurement and/or on-line detection method for e.g. conjugated organic compound on roadway surface, involves detecting reflected light from surface, and comparing and evaluating signals by signal evaluation system
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method and system for detecting and measuring specific substances, such as conjugated organic compounds, on road surfaces without any physical contact. It uses pulsed ultraviolet (UV) light to illuminate the roadway, then detects and analyzes the reflected light to determine the presence of these compounds. The analysis is carried out in real-time using a signal evaluation system that interprets color and brightness changes.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Detecting oil or chemical spills on highways to enhance road safety
- Monitoring road surface cleanliness for road maintenance operations
- Identifying hazardous organic residues after traffic accidents
- Automatic, real-time inspection of roads by maintenance vehicles
- Environmental monitoring to detect polluting substances on transportation infrastructure
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Contact-less operation reduces equipment wear and increases measurement speed
- Real-time detection enables rapid response to hazardous spills or contamination
- Can be easily integrated into mobile or stationary monitoring systems
- Improves road safety by allowing early identification of dangerous substances
- Reduces need for manual sampling and laboratory analysis

Patent Abstract
The method involves illuminating a roadway surface (2) by a light source with pulsed UV light (4). Reflected light (5) from the roadway surface is detected in adjustment with the frequency of the light source by a light receiver when illuminating with the UV light and/or without the illumination with the UV light. The signals of the light receiver are compared and evaluated by a color and/or brightness signal evaluation system. The roadway surface is illuminated with the light of wavelength of 230 nanometers to 400 nanometers. An independent claim is also included for a system for contact-less on-line measurement and/or on-line detection of conjugated organic compounds on a roadway surface.
