Induction Welding of Closed Metal Profiles with Soft Magnet-Polymer Composite Impeders
AISimple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent discloses a device for producing closed tubular or profile semi-finished products using inductive longitudinal seam welding. The core innovation lies in the use of a soft magnet-polymer composite as the impeder core, replacing traditional ceramic ferrite materials. Instead of a full protective shell, only a localized, typically ceramic, protection is provided at critical points, allowing the impeder core to be larger and more efficient. Additional features include adaptable cooling and modular design of the impeder for better process efficiency and economics.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Manufacturing of steel, aluminum, or copper pipes and closed profiles for construction and infrastructure applications
- Production of welded tubular products for automotive, oil & gas, and energy industries
- Fabrication of high-strength, thin-walled metal tubes for industrial machinery
- Mass production lines for profile-welded components in HVAC and appliance industries
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Higher welding speeds, increasing manufacturing throughput and reducing downtime
- Greater energy efficiency, lowering production costs and improving environmental footprint
- Enhanced seam quality and mechanical properties of the welded products
- Longer service life and reduced maintenance due to improved impeder materials and localized protection
- Simpler and cheaper manufacturing of the impeder tool thanks to flexible shaping and reduced material usage for protection
- Ability to handle a wider range of tube sizes and shapes, including small and medium diameters
- Reduced overheating and thermal damage risk during welding due to better cooling and material selection

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a device for manufacturing closed profile blanks by means of inductive longitudinal seam welding, comprising an impeder core and an inductor that can be inserted into a profile blank and wherein the inductor envelops the profile blank at least in regions during the joining process and forms a joining zone on the profile blank, wherein the impeder core consists of a soft magnet-polymer composite and has no protective sheath enveloping the impeder core, wherein a protective component is arranged at least on the side of the impeder core pointing in the direction of the joining zone.
