Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention describes a floatable absorber device made from materials with varying densities and porosities, designed to absorb liquids (such as oil or water) from a surface. The device has at least two sections whose densities change independently during absorption, causing a visible change in orientation or position as it becomes saturated. This visible effect allows users to easily determine when the absorber is saturated. The absorber may have features (such as a hook or magnet) to enable automatic or manual retrieval. Its structure can be customized (e.g., shape, outer shell, internal fill materials) for different absorption applications.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Cleaning oil spills from bodies of water or industrial tanks
  • Absorbing hazardous chemical leaks on liquid surfaces
  • Water pollution control in environmental emergencies
  • Maintenance of industrial cleaning baths or wastewater tanks
  • Automated liquid absorption systems with visual or machine-based saturation detection
  • Deployment in disaster response kits for chemical/fuel spills
  • Lab or factory safety equipment for spill management

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Visual or detectable indication of saturation, reducing guesswork and improving efficiency
  • Enhanced absorption capacity due to optimized material structure and porosity
  • Can be easily collected automatically or manually once saturated, reducing contamination risk
  • Customizable shape, material, and hydrophobic/hydrophilic properties for various substances and scenarios
  • Potentially reusable by regenerating or replacing the absorber
  • Reduces the need for chemical indicators by using physical orientation as a saturation signal
  • Enables selective and efficient clean-up, minimizing waste and environmental impact

Patent Abstract

The floatable absorber comprises a saturation point, and two sections, whose densities alter itself during an absorption of a substance and/or a substance mixture independent from one another and into different measurements. The absorber is discriminatable according to an amount of the absorbed substance, whose layer or orientation regarding the surface is changed by the absorption of the substance, on which it forms the absorber and to lead a detectable alteration of the orientation. The absorber comprises a device, which enables an automatic collection of the absorber. The absorber comprises a device, which enables an automatic collection of the absorber and is a wire, a rod, a hook, an eyelet or a magnetic and/or a magnetizable material. The absorber is predominantly made of materials, which have different porosity in different areas, are closely packed in different areas, and/or are admixed in different areas of different parts by volume of a filling material that is sand, hollow body, foamed body and/or foamable substance. The absorber is made of various layers and/or coiled trajectories. The areas, the layers and/or trajectories consist of fibrous material. The absorber: is partially hydrophobic; comprises a different wettability and/or swellability; is formed in cuboid-, cone-, pyramidal- or rotationally symmetrically, ball-, cylinder-, cone-, egg-shaped or ellipsoid-shaped manner; is surrounded by a shell made of woven, knitted fabrics, and fibers or film; and contains woven, fibers or film in its interior. An independent claim is included for a method for preparing an absorber.
