Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

The invention describes a highly efficient drive system for motor vehicles that integrates two electric motors and a planetary gear system. The system enables flexible distribution of driving and auxiliary power demands by connecting the two motors in various configurations to the vehicle’s drivetrain and ancillary systems (e.g., air conditioning compressor), with the ability to synchronize and optimize power delivery, especially in part-load operation. This setup enables smooth gear changes without power interruption and improves overall system efficiency by actively managing motor operation and reducing mechanical losses.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Electric vehicles (EVs) requiring optimized efficiency and flexible power management
  • Hybrid vehicles combining battery, fuel cell, or other energy storage with advanced electric drives
  • Commercial vehicles (trucks, buses) seeking improved range and operational flexibility
  • Vehicles with demanding auxiliary loads, such as climate control or fuel cell air compressors
  • Automated or smart transmission systems that require uninterrupted torque during shifting
  • Compact vehicles where space and weight reduction are key

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Enhanced overall energy efficiency, especially at low and partial loads, resulting in greater vehicle range
  • Continuous, interruption-free power delivery during gear shifts
  • Integrated auxiliary drive reduces complexity, weight, and space requirements
  • Optimized use of both electric motors improves performance and reduces losses
  • Reduced reliance on expensive mechanical transmission components, lowering cost and improving reliability
  • Modular and flexible system design enables easier adaptation to different vehicle types and architectures

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to drive systems for motor vehicles, comprising a first electric motor and a second electric motor. The drive systems are characterised in particular by great efficiency. For that purpose the rotor of the first electric motor is either directly connected to an output or can be detachably connected to an output by means of at least one first switch element. Firstly, the rotor of the second electric motor is connected directly or detachably via a switch device to at least one assembly. Secondly, the rotor of the second electric motor is or can be connected either to the central gear of a planetary gear system or to the central gear of a planetary gear system and also via a second switch element detachably to the rotor of the first electric motor. The output is connected to the external gear of the planetary gear system. Between the external gear and the central gear of the planetary gear system there is at least one planet gear. Furthermore, the planet carrier of the planetary gear system can be detachably connected to a fixed part via a control unit.
