Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes a method for manufacturing friction rings with integrated cooling channels using a spray compacting process. The process involves spraying an aluminum alloy mixed with hard particles onto a rotating, movable clamping surface with a specially designed support tube. This setup allows the creation of hollow cylindrical semi-finished products with built-in channels for cooling, which are then separated into individual friction rings.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Automotive brake or clutch systems where friction rings require cooling to withstand high operating temperatures.
  • Industrial machinery involving large rotating components that need efficient heat dissipation.
  • Aerospace applications where lightweight yet durable components with built-in cooling are required.
  • Wind turbines or other heavy mechanical systems with rotating parts that generate significant friction and heat.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Provides friction rings with integrated cooling channels, improving heat dissipation and extending the component's lifespan.
  • Utilizes a spray compacting method, which can result in improved material strength and uniformity due to the mixing of hard particles with the aluminum alloy.
  • Allows for mass production of advanced friction rings in a cost-effective and repeatable manner.
  • Supports lightweight component design, beneficial for automotive and aerospace industries.

Patent Abstract

Manufacturing friction rings (1) with cooling channels (2) using a spray compacting unit, comprises e.g. (a) directing at least one spray stream of an aluminum alloy mixed with hard particles on the clamping surface by the support tube of the collecting device coaxially arranged on it, which is circumferentially distributed over the outer surface and includes openings spaced from each other in planes, producing a hollow cylindrical semifinished product under generating a gas flow through the openings of the support tube. Manufacturing friction rings (1) with cooling channels (2) using a spray compacting unit, comprises (a) directing at least one spray stream of an aluminum alloy mixed with hard particles on the clamping surface by the support tube of the collecting device coaxially arranged on it, which is circumferentially distributed over the outer surface and includes openings spaced from each other in planes, producing a hollow cylindrical semifinished product under generating a gas flow through the openings of the support tube, where by the gas flow channels, in which the semi-finished product remains freely, which are circumferentially distributed along the semi-finished product corresponding to the openings in the support tube, and are spaced from each other in planes, and (b) separating the hollow cylindrical semifinished product into a multiple of the friction rings, where each friction ring includes a plane formed from the channels as cooling channels. The spray compacting unit comprises a collecting device and at least one spray nozzle (31), where the collecting device includes a clamping surface (30), which is axially movable and rotatable around an axis and a cylindrical support coaxially arranged on the clamping surface, whose outer diameter corresponds to an inside diameter provided for the hollow cylindrical blank (10). The cylindrical support is a carrier tube with a multiple of openings in its outer surface, which are circumferentially distributed and are spaced from each other in planes, where the interior of the support tube is connected with a gas supply unit such that a gas flow is generated through the openings of each plane during spray compacting.
