Metal-Plastic Composite Body Panel for Cars and Commercial Vehicles
AISimple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method for manufacturing a car or truck body or cabin part that consists of a metal hollow profile filled with a plastic component. The process involves coating the metal part with paint and then baking it at high temperature, even though the plastic inside has a lower melting point, without damaging it. This enables the production of complex and well-coated vehicle body parts efficiently.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Production of automotive body parts for cars and commercial vehicles
- Manufacture of truck cabins or structural vehicle parts requiring a metal exterior and plastic interior
- Making lightweight, strong vehicle components for improved fuel efficiency
- Industrial coating processes for composite vehicle structures
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Allows high-quality paint coatings on metal vehicle parts with plastic internal components
- Enables efficient manufacturing by integrating paint baking and part assembly
- Facilitates the production of lightweight, durable automotive parts, potentially reducing vehicle weight
- Broadens design possibilities by combining metal and plastic materials during high-temperature processing without compromising structural integrity

Patent Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a body or cabin part of a passenger car or commercial vehicle, which comprises a metal component having at least one metal hollow profile and at least one inner plastic component filling an interior space of the at least one metal hollow profile with a melting point of at most 170 °C, wherein at least one outer surface of the metal component is provided with a coating having a paint and the metal component with this coating is tempered in at least one tempering process carried out at at least one temperature of at least 180 °C until the paint is completely cured and/or baked into a surface of the metal component, as well as a body or cabin part of a passenger car or commercial vehicle manufactured by such a method. In order to make the manufacture of such body or cabin parts efficient, in the method according to the invention the at least one tempering process is carried out on the metal hollow profile filled with the at least one inner plastic component, wherein the metal component during the tempering process completely encloses the at least one inner plastic component at least circumferentially.
