Internal Forging Method for Fixing Components onto Hollow Shafts
AISimple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method and device for manufacturing a secure and durable shaft-hub connection. The invention involves expanding the cross-section of tubular workpieces so that a functional element mounted on their outer circumference is fixed in place. The process uses a forging tool with at least one radially movable forming punch, which deforms the inside of the hollow shaft to fasten the functional element.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Manufacturing of automotive drive shafts with integral hubs or gear components
- Production of industrial machinery shafts with securely fixed couplings
- Assembly of mechanical systems where torque, axial, and bending forces need to be reliably transmitted
- Construction of transmission components for engines, turbines, or robotics
- Retrofitting or repair of shaft-hub connections in existing machines
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Creates a strong and secure shaft-hub connection capable of transmitting high loads
- Enhances the durability and lifespan of mechanical assemblies
- Reduces the risk of slippage or failure at the connection point
- Allows precise placement and fixation of external functional elements
- Enables efficient manufacturing as both the method and device are described

Patent Abstract
The subject matter of the present invention is a method for expanding the cross-section of tubular workpieces in such a way that a functional element seated on their circumference is securely and permanently fixed. In particular, the method according to the invention can be used to create shaft-hub connections for the transmission of torques, axial forces, bending moments and shear forces. Furthermore, a device for carrying out the method is described. The method provides for introducing a forging tool with at least one radially movable forming stamp with an axially aligned forging bead into the hollow shaft up to the axial position of the functional element and forging the inside of the hollow shaft to the intended fixation by moving the forming stamp in the circumferential direction.
