Method for Matching and/or Synchronizing Counter Values of at Least Two Devices, Device and Arrangement of Devices
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method and a system for precisely synchronizing and aligning internal counter values (logical clock/timer values) among at least two distributed devices, such as sensors or nodes in a network. Each device exchanges reference counter values with others to create a highly accurate, shared time base, allowing coordinated actions, signal transmission, and even localization, all without requiring external synchronization signals (like GPS or an external clock). The invention also covers the relevant devices and their arrangement for achieving this autonomous synchronization.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Synchronization of distributed sensor networks (IoT devices, wireless sensor networks) for time-critical data acquisition or event detection.
- Wireless mesh networks requiring coordinated communication, such as smart home or building automation systems.
- Accurate localization and tracking of devices or vehicles indoors where GPS is unavailable or unreliable.
- Time-synchronized control of actuators or lighting (e.g., turning lights on/off based on precise location).
- Coordinated operation of robots, drones, or autonomous vehicles using synchronized time without external signals.
- Precise synchronization of network nodes in mobile ad hoc networks or industrial IoT environments.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables autonomous and highly accurate (down to the nanosecond) time synchronization between distributed devices.
- Does not require external timing or synchronization signals (like GPS), allowing for greater reliability indoors or in shielded environments.
- Improves reliability and precision of time-coordinated actions, including simultaneous signal transmission and reception.
- Supports precise localization and navigation of mobile devices/devices without needing global references.
- Reduces installation and operation costs by eliminating the need for dedicated synchronization infrastructure.
- Highly flexible: adaptable to a variety of device types (stationary/mobile, different clocks) and communication channels (wired or wireless).

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to - a method for aligning and/or synchronising meter values of at least two devices (1, 2, 3, 4), wherein a receiver means (11) of a first device (1) forwards reference meter values at least of a second device (2), in particular of a reference meter of the second device (2), to a meter value alignment unit (53) of the first device (1) at receiving time points, wherein a meter means (12) of the first device (1) transmits a received meter value to the meter value alignment unit (53) at each of the receiving time points, wherein the meter value alignment unit (53) assigns the or at least one reference meter value to the received meter value at each of the receiving times in order to align the meter values; - to a device; and - to an arrangement.
