Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes an improved airship (blimp or zeppelin) design featuring at least three (preferably four) propulsion units distributed around the balloon envelope. The arrangement and independent control of the motors allow the generation and shifting of force and torque vectors at varied points, enabling precise control to largely prevent the airship from oscillating or tilting due to external disturbances like wind.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Autonomous surveillance or observation airships for aerial photography and monitoring.
  • Advertising blimps requiring stable stationary positioning above events.
  • Cargo, inspection, or research airships that need highly stable flight in turbulent conditions.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed for prolonged loitering or environmental monitoring.
  • Search and rescue operations requiring precise vehicle maneuvering in confined or urban airspace.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Significantly reduces oscillation and tilting compared to traditional airship propulsion arrangements, increasing stability and controllability.
  • Allows for highly responsive and independent control of movement in up to six degrees of freedom, enabling precise maneuvering, even rotation on the spot.
  • Improves adaptability to changing wind conditions and external disturbances, thus supporting reliable autonomous or autopilot operation.
  • Facilitates more efficient propulsion force distribution and load management on the balloon envelope, reducing stress and improving durability.
  • Enables new operational possibilities for both manned and unmanned airships, especially in tasks requiring stationary hovering or complex navigation paths.

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to an airship comprising a balloon and several drives for displacing the airship. Said invention can be used by dirigibles that are also known as autonomous airships or blimps, as well as for Zeppelins. The aim of the invention is to provide an airship of the above-mentioned type in which the airship can be prevented to a large extent from oscillating or tilting. Said aim is achieved as the drives of the airship are at least three drives and are arranged about the balloon in such a manner that a force vector or a torque vector generated by the drives can be produced thus varying the position thereof.
