The invention relates to methods for producing a metal semi-finished product or finished part as material composite having a functionalised surface and such semi-finished products or finished parts. The methods and such semi-finished products or finished parts are characterised in particular in that a surface or layer provided with particles can be produced and can be provided as a semi-finished product or finished part. For this purpose, a metal substrate as component of the semi-finished product or finished part is coated with a metal layer, particles are applied to the metal layer and the substrate with the metal layer and the particles is deformed at a temperature below the melting temperatures of the metal substrate, the metal layer and the particles. For this purpose, a semi-finished product or finished part is a material composite having a deposited metal layer and having particles incorporated by application and plastic deformation into the surface of the layer and/or into the layer.
