Microfluidic Device and Method for Manufacturing the Same
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention relates to a microfluidic device and a manufacturing method that uses a film with an opening to selectively connect or isolate specific channel structures on a component's surface. By combining identical base components with customizable films, various microfluidic configurations can be created economically, enabling flexible and cost-effective production of different microfluidic devices from the same base part.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Rapid prototyping and manufacturing of lab-on-a-chip devices for diagnostics or research.
- Flexible development of point-of-care testing platforms for medical and veterinary use.
- Production of biological or chemical sensors with tailored fluidic paths for specific assays.
- Integration into disposable cartridges for automated sample analysis systems.
- Development of custom microfluidic circuits for drug screening or environmental testing.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly reduces manufacturing costs by using the same base component for multiple device variations.
- Allows fast customization of channel connectivity without expensive retooling or redesign.
- Enables high design flexibility and rapid iteration for different applications or assays.
- Supports mass production with low initial setup costs (especially with injection molding).
- Facilitates easy assembly thanks to self-adhesive films and simple construction.
- Reduces material waste since non-required reservoir/channel sections can be isolated without additional components.
- Improves operational reliability by integrating features such as degassing membranes to manage bubbles.

Patent Abstract
A film having an opening is used to individualize in an economical manner at least one component in which channel structures are formed that are at least partially open towards a component surface of the at least one component to give one of a plurality of channel structure combinations. The invention allows the use of at least one such component of a plurality of components that are identical to produce different microfluidic devices which differ in the connection combination of the channel structures, thereby keeping the production costs for the microfluidic devices low.
