Switch Arrangement with a Plurality of Switches Arranged in the Form of a Matrix and Method for Switching Switches Arranged in the Form of a Matrix
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a matrix-based switch array, where multiple switches are positioned at the intersections of rows and columns. Each switch utilizes two coils placed on different planes (one for each row and one for each column) to generate the required magnetic field for actuation. When a specific row and column are energized, the magnetic fields combine to change the state of the switch at their intersection. This allows for precise and efficient control of individual switches in large arrays, particularly with minimal wiring complexity. The focus is on creating robust, bistable, magnetically actuated micro-switches that are suitable for integration into reconfigurable devices like antenna arrays.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reconfigurable antenna arrays for mobile communication (e.g., GSM/UMTS)
- High-density micro-electromechanical switches for RF circuits
- Digitally addressable switching matrices in electronic devices
- MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) arrays requiring low-complexity wiring
- Compact signal routing networks in telecommunication equipment
- Adaptive sensor grids in IoT and smart devices

Patent Abstract
The invention proposes a circuit arrangement having a plurality of switches, which are arranged in rows and columns and which each have at least one moveable contact which is subjected to spring prestress and at least one fixed contact, a coil arrangement being associated with each switch, wherein the respective switch can be actuated depending on a magnetic field produced via the coil arrangement. At least one coil (2) in a first plane with electrical drive connections (16) is associated with each row of switches (20), and at least one coil (1) in a second plane with electrical drive terminals (17) is associated with each column of switches (20), wherein the magnetic force required for actuating a switch lying at a node point (13) of a row and a column can be produced by applying current in the same direction to the terminals of the respective row and the respective column and adding the magnetic fields of the first and second coil (1, 2) of the respective switch (20).
