Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes a spindle (such as a threaded, tool, or motor spindle) with a lightweight fiber-composite core and a hard outer cladding. The cladding is formed using advanced coating techniques to combine the high strength and low weight of composites with the wear resistance and hardness of metallic or ceramic coatings.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Precision machine tool spindles for CNC machining centers
  • Rotating spindles in electric motors or generators
  • Grinding spindle applications requiring high strength and wear resistance
  • Hydrostatic spindle systems in fluid-based machinery
  • Lightweight, high-performance threaded spindles for automation and robotics

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Reduced spindle weight due to the fiber-composite core, leading to improved machine dynamics and energy efficiency
  • Enhanced surface hardness and wear resistance thanks to the hard-coated outer cladding
  • Extended component lifespan and reduced maintenance requirements
  • Ability to combine multiple material properties (e.g., strength, flexibility, and hardness) in one spindle
  • Versatile manufacturing methods allow adaptation for various industrial needs

Patent Abstract

Spindle (1), preferably a threaded spindle, comprises an inner core (2) with a fiber-composite material, and an outer cladding (3), which at least partially exhibits a hard-coat layer configuration. An independent claim is also included for manufacturing the spindle, comprising: forming the core made of a fiber-reinforced plastic material, preferably a carbon fiber reinforced plastic or synthetic resin produced by pultrusion and/or winding technology; forming the cladding by thermal spraying of metal, oxide ceramic materials and/or carbidic materials on the core, using wire arc-, plasma-, flame- or laser spraying, or forming the cladding made of a solid material by core drilling and at least portion-wise by thread cutting on an outer side the cladding; and incorporating the core into the drilled cladding, connecting the core and the cladding, by adhesive bonding, grout injecting, or shrinking.
