Sound Velocity Sensor for Measuring Fluids in Flow Lines
AISimple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The invention describes a sound velocity sensor designed to measure the speed of sound in fluids (gases or liquids) within a pipeline. This compact sensor features a chamber with ultrasound transducers and can be integrated directly inside a fluid-carrying pipe. The sensor has a mechanism to isolate fluid in a measurement chamber using an electromagnet and spring, enabling accurate, in-line measurement of fluid properties such as sound speed, which correlates with density and specific heat capacity.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Real-time monitoring of fluid composition in industrial pipelines (e.g., gas, refrigerants, heat transfer fluids)
- Density and/or heat capacity measurement in heating and cooling circulatory systems
- Quality and process control in chemical or energy industries
- Leak detection or anomaly detection in pipeline systems
- Integration in smart flow metering or process automation systems
- Research and laboratory analysis for fluid characterization
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Compact, space-saving design allowing full integration into pipelines (in-line installation)
- Simple and robust construction, reducing mechanical complexity and points of failure
- Can be applied to both high and low temperature environments
- Real-time and in-situ measurement capability without the need for external sampling
- Handles potentially contaminated or chemically aggressive fluids due to robust diaphragm and materials
- Low pressure drop and minimal interference with pipeline flow
- Improved safety and process control by allowing for continuous monitoring
- Flexible operation: sensor can be isolated from the flow for measurement, minimizing disturbance
