Method and Data Storage for Storing Data in the Form of Skyrmions and Antiskyrmions
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The invention proposes a method and storage device for data storage using magnetic quasiparticles known as skyrmions and antiskyrmions. The technique involves writing skyrmions or antiskyrmions into a thin strip of ferromagnetic material by rotating the magnetization at the edge in opposite directions. This approach enables both types of particles to be stored and moved within the material, offering a potentially robust and high-density solution for data storage.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- High-density non-volatile computer memory (RAM or mass storage) based on skyrmions and antiskyrmions.
- Spintronic devices utilizing magnetic quasiparticles for fast, energy-efficient data processing.
- Magnetic racetrack memory architectures to replace conventional hard drives or solid-state drives.
- Secure or robust data storage in environments where conventional electronics may fail due to radiation or temperature fluctuations.
- Novel data encoding systems where information is stored in magnetic textures rather than electronic charge.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly increased data storage density due to the small size of skyrmions and antiskyrmions compared to traditional magnetic domains.
- Reduced energy consumption for writing and erasing data, as manipulation of magnetic states is efficient.
- Potential for faster data access and transfer rates due to the ability to move skyrmions and antiskyrmions rapidly within the material.
- Improved robustness and resistance to material imperfections, making the memory more reliable and less prone to data loss.
- Enables new types of spintronic devices, merging benefits of both magnetic and electronic memories with greater scalability.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for storing data in the form of skyrmions and antiskyrmions, wherein the method comprises the following steps: - providing a strip of a ferromagnetic material which has an anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction; - writing a skyrmion by rotating a magnetisation in an edge portion of the strip in a first direction of rotation; and - writing an antiskyrmion by rotating a magnetisation in an edge portion of the strip in a second direction of rotation opposite to the first direction of rotation.
