Additive for Improving the Flow Properties of Paraffin-Containing Crude Oils
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention relates to an additive designed to improve the flow properties of crude oil that contains paraffin. The additive, made from specific copolymers based on selected monomer groups, lowers the pour point of crude oil, making it flow more easily even at lower temperatures.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Facilitating the transportation of paraffinic crude oil through pipelines in cold environments
- Reducing blockages and maintenance needs in pipelines and storage tanks due to wax buildup
- Enhancing oil extraction efficiency in oil fields with high paraffin content
- Improving refinery processing by ensuring smoother flow of incoming crude oil
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Lowers the pour point of crude oil, allowing it to flow at lower temperatures
- Reduces operational costs by minimizing blockages and equipment downtime
- Improves safety by reducing the risk of pipeline ruptures caused by wax solidification
- Increases overall efficiency in crude oil transportation and handling processes

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to an additive and its use for improving the flow properties of paraffinic crude oil, a process for preparing a crude oil composition with a pour point reduced compared to the crude oil, and a crude oil composition comprising the additive. The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a way to favorably influence the pour point of crude oil and thus improve the flow properties of crude oil. In one aspect, the invention provides an additive for improving the flow properties of paraffinic crude oil, wherein the additive comprises 20-40 wt.-% of at least one copolymer of at least two comonomers, and wherein the comonomers are selected from groups (a) and (b) of comonomers, and wherein group (a) of comonomers consists of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, and group (b) of comonomers consists of styrene and a styrene derivative.
