Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention is a medical device for administering therapeutic agents using a carrier made from shape-memory polyurethane foam. The carrier can be compressed into a temporary form, which traps the medication inside. Upon reaching a certain temperature, the material returns to its permanent, porous foam form, allowing the release of the therapeutic agent.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Targeted delivery of drugs directly to specific tissues inside the human body
  • Controlled release implants for medications that need delayed or on-demand delivery
  • Minimally invasive delivery of therapeutics where the carrier can be inserted in compressed form, then expand at body temperature

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Precise control over the timing and location of drug release
  • Reduces risk of premature drug release and improves effectiveness
  • Enables minimally invasive procedures due to the compressible and expandable carrier
  • Improves patient comfort and compliance by allowing more efficient drug delivery

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to an administration device for administering therapeutic agents, comprising a carrier made of a polyurethane with shape memory properties, which has a permanent form in which it is present as an open-pore foam, and a programmed temporary form. A therapeutic agent is immobilized in the pores of the polyurethane with shape memory properties of the carrier. The polyurethane with shape memory properties of the carrier can be converted from its programmed temporary form to its permanent form by heating the polyurethane with shape memory properties to its switching temperature. The invention provides that the polyurethane with shape memory properties of the carrier in its programmed temporary form is compressed to at most 10% of the thickness of its permanent form, in which it is present as an open-pore foam, so that at least some pores of the open-pore foam are closed and release of the at least one therapeutic agent immobilized in the closed pores of the polyurethane with shape memory properties of the carrier in the programmed form is inhibited.
