Die Erfindung betrifft eine berührungslose optische Abstandsmessung. Hierzu erfolgt eine Modulation eines Lichtstrahls, der in Richtung eines Zielobjektes ausgesendet wird. Durch Auswerten des Phasengangs des an dem Zielobjekt reflektierten modulierten Lichtes kann der Abstand zu dem Zielobjekt berechnet werden. Das modulierte Licht kann mittels eines Lichtleiters zu einer geeigneten Position geführt werden, von welcher der Abstand zu dem Zielobjekt ermittelt werden soll.
