Portable computer tomography device
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention relates to a highly portable computer tomography (CT) device that is compact and lightweight enough to be carried by a single person (maximum 25 kg, with small dimensions). The device features a novel shielding system, where only those components exposed to potentially harmful X-ray radiation are shielded, reducing both the amount of shielding material and the overall weight. The system integrates key CT components—including an X-ray source, detector, and object space—within a shielded chamber, while other controls and electronics remain outside. A compact, efficient cooling system for the X-ray source also contributes to its portable design. The construction uses lightweight, robust materials and mounting strategies to further enhance portability and ease of use.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Field medical diagnostics in remote or emergency locations where traditional large CT machines are unavailable
- Veterinary applications, especially for animals that cannot be easily transported
- Security inspections (e.g., at airports, border control, or customs) requiring on-site scanning of suspicious packages or objects
- Industrial non-destructive testing, such as analyzing components or materials directly at a factory or construction site
- Archaeological or paleontological fieldwork where fragile objects need imaging without being moved
- Military field operations for rapid assessment of injuries or material inspection
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly increased mobility due to lightweight and compact design, enabling one-person transport
- Reduced shielding and smart layout drastically lower the device's weight while maintaining X-ray safety standards
- Fast deployment and setup in diverse environments without infrastructure requirements
- Versatile USB connection for simple integration with standard computers for data transfer and device control
- Efficient and compact cooling of the X-ray source increases the system's reliability and lifespan
- Suitable for detailed CT imaging where mobility and flexibility are critical, expanding CT applications to new environments and scenarios

Patent Abstract
The device has a portable cabinet in which X-ray radiation source, X-ray radiation detector, object space between the source and the detector, high voltage generator and rotator and traversing control devices are arranged. A shield device (12) includes a shielded room arranged in the cabinet to shield the components of the device from produced X-ray radiation. The source, the detector and the object space are arranged in the shielded room. The high voltage generator, the rotator control device and the traversing control device are arranged outside the shielded room.
