Sensor System and Method for Imaging Acquisition of an Object
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a sensor system and method for imaging objects, particularly useful in medicine and industry. The system combines an imaging sensor (such as ultrasound) and an optical sensor, both fixed relative to each other, to capture data about an object. By analyzing the movement between the sensors and the object, including any self-movements or deformations of the object, the system reconstructs accurate three-dimensional images. The system can recognize and account for object deformations or motion, leading to enhanced image quality even for dynamic or moving structures.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Medical imaging of organs that move or deform (e.g., during breathing or blood flow) to obtain high-quality 3D images for diagnostics or surgery planning.
- Industrial non-destructive testing for material and structural analysis, including during operation (structural health monitoring), such as checking technical textiles, foam, insulation materials, or wind turbine parts.
- Endoscopic procedures that require precise 3D imaging of hard-to-access internal body structures.
- Real-time monitoring and imaging during minimally invasive surgical procedures.
- Material analysis in aerospace engineering for detecting faults in components under strain or vibration.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Greatly improved 3D image quality even when imaging moving or deforming objects, such as living organs or active machine parts.
- Reduces errors caused by object movement or deformation, leading to more reliable diagnostics and inspections.
- Ability to detect and filter out image data corrupted by object deformation, thus ensuring only high-quality images are reconstructed.
- Applicable both in medical and industrial fields, increasing versatility and value of the technology.
- Allows for real-time adaptation and imaging, supporting better immediate decision-making during interventions or inspections.
- Increases the accuracy and reliability of endoscopic and other imaging-based systems with minimal setup changes.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a sensor system (22) and to a corresponding method for image capture of an object (13), wherein an image sensor (7) is disposed in an imaging area (14) of an optical sensor (9) for the object (13) and substantially stationary thereto. By means of an analysis unit (16), relative motions between the imaging sensor (7) and the object (13) can be derived for the captured image data of the optical sensor (9), and a three-dimensional object image can be reconstructed as a function thereof from the image data. Relative motions caused by actual motions of the object (13) can in particular be captured when deriving the relative motions and considered when reconstructing the object image. High image quality of the object image is thereby achieved.
