Device and method for preparing and displaying a television program transmitted via digital radio
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a device and method for extracting interactive television program data from digital radio broadcasts and displaying it using conventional web technologies, such as web browsers. A data extractor component retrieves broadcast TV program files and organizes them in a common namespace, while a web browser selects, displays, and allows users to interact with this content. The system supports various digital broadcast channels and decouples the displayed content from the underlying transmission medium, enabling flexible, platform-independent interactive TV experiences.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Interactive TV on smart TVs and set-top boxes that receive digital radio broadcasts (e.g., DVB-H, DVB-SH, WLAN)
- Mobile devices or handhelds displaying digital TV content with interactive features via integrated web browsers
- Cloud-based TV platforms aggregating and serving content from multiple digital broadcast sources as interactive web pages
- In-car entertainment systems that extract and display real-time TV programs with user interactivity from radio signals
- Kiosks or digital signage that show updatable, interactive video content sourced from digital broadcast streams
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables seamless integration of interactive TV services using standard web technologies, reducing the need for proprietary solutions
- Decouples content display from the broadcast medium, enhancing device compatibility and deployment flexibility
- Allows for dynamic user interaction (e.g., program selection, additional info, votes, games) directly within TV content
- Simplifies updating and distributing interactive TV programming, as new content or interactivity can be pushed via the broadcast with web-based frontend adaptation
- Supports both linear (traditional) and non-linear (interactive, user-controlled) TV content distribution through a unified platform

Patent Abstract
The device (100) has a data extractor (110) extracting TV program data (115) from digital radio broadcast (101) and reproducing the data in a common name space. A web browser (120) selects the data from the space and interactively displays the selected data in response to user interactions (111). The extractor and the browser are formed as programs executed on a processor. The extractor is formed as an interface between the browser and a transmission medium e.g. Digital video broadcasting-Handheldand Digital video broadcasting-satellite services to handhelds. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for processing and displaying interactive TV program (2) a computer program with a program code for executing a method for processing and displaying interactive TV program.
