Method for Synthesising Aminobiphenyls Using Aryl Hydrazines
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a new, cost-effective method to synthesize 2-aminobiphenyl compounds and their derivatives using aryl hydrazines in the presence of an oxidizing agent. The process involves selective radical coupling reactions that avoid expensive or toxic metals common in traditional syntheses. The resulting aminobiphenyl products serve as useful intermediates for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other bioactive molecules.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Manufacturing intermediates for pharmaceuticals, such as drug molecules containing aminobiphenyl motifs
- Production of agrochemicals, including fungicides and herbicides, that use aminobiphenyl structures (e.g., Boscalid, Bixafen, Xemium)
- Synthesis of specialty chemicals or advanced materials requiring aminobiphenyl derivatives
- R&D laboratories working in organic synthesis or medicinal chemistry
- Scale-up production of functionalized biphenyl building blocks
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Cost-effective synthesis due to usage of readily available and inexpensive aryl hydrazines and oxidizing agents
- Avoidance of toxic or expensive heavy metal catalysts (like palladium), making the process more environmentally friendly and sustainable
- Selective and mild reaction conditions, leading to fewer byproducts and higher yields
- Broad applicability to a range of substituted biphenyls—flexible for different functional group requirements
- Simplifies the synthetic route for key intermediates in pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, potentially reducing manufacturing costs and complexity

Patent Abstract
The present invention describes a method for synthesising 2-aminobiphenyls and derivatives thereof. This method can be performed cost-effectively and is based on selective reactions. Functionalised biphenyl compounds are of great interest, particularly as pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals, and as precursors for such active ingredients. The method for producing a compound of formula 3 is characterised in that a compound of formula 1 is reacted with a compound of formula 2 in the presence of an oxidising agent.
