Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention is an advanced image element (pixel) design for digital image sensors, such as those used in cameras. Unlike conventional sensors that require interpolation to reconstruct color information, this pixel contains multiple (at least three) sub-detectors, each covered by a different color filter (such as red, green, and blue). The configuration ensures that each pixel directly captures complete brightness and color information, so every 'real' pixel in the sensor array outputs full color values without needing to combine data from neighboring pixels. This results in sharper images, less color noise, and true resolution matching the sensor's physical pixel count.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Digital cameras for photography and video recording
  • Medical imaging devices where high color fidelity and resolution are critical
  • Microscopy systems for scientific and biological imaging
  • Industrial vision systems used for quality control and inspection
  • Smartphone and mobile device cameras
  • Security and surveillance camera sensors
  • Astronomical imaging devices
  • High-definition broadcasting equipment

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Delivers true sensor resolution—each pixel outputs complete color data, eliminating the need for color interpolation.
  • Reduces color noise and artifacts compared to Bayer-filter based sensors.
  • Simplifies image processing pipelines by removing the need for demosaicing or complex color reconstruction algorithms.
  • Provides sharper, higher-quality, and more detailed digital images.
  • Can be produced cost-effectively using standard CMOS or CCD fabrication processes.
  • Improves color accuracy and consistency across the sensor array.
  • Enables more accurate image analysis and post-processing due to better raw data quality.

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to an image element (1) for determining brightness information and colour information. The image element (1) comprises, on a light-sensitive detector surface (2) divided with subsurfaces (3, 4, 5) into at least three separately readable individual detectors (8, 9, 10): a colour filter element (14) that covers the detector surface (2) and comprises colour filters (17, 18, 19) which differ in their filter properties and are associated with each of the subsurfaces (3, 4, 5); and a common electronic read-out unit (6) connected to the individual detectors (8, 9, 10) for the purpose of reading out each of said individual detectors (8, 9, 10), the subsurfaces (3, 4, 5) being connected one within another. The invention also relates to an image sensor (22) comprising a plurality of such image elements (1).
