Die Cast Component and Method for Producing a die Cast Component
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a specially designed die cast component made from a curable aluminum alloy with specific proportions of silicon and magnesium, as well as a precise method for producing such a component. The alloy composition and heat treatment process are engineered to provide a favorable combination of high strength, ductility, and excellent suitability for mechanical joining methods such as punch riveting. The invention addresses long-standing issues in making thin-walled, high-strength die-cast automotive structures that remain resistant to cracking during joining processes.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Automotive body parts, especially structural components requiring joining by punch riveting or similar methods
- Lightweight yet strong chassis elements for vehicles
- Production of thin-walled aluminum castings for electric vehicles and other transportation sectors
- Manufacture of safety-critical components where high strength and ductility are required
- Applications in aerospace or machinery where robust and reliable joining of aluminum castings is needed
- Replacement of heavier or less formable components in vehicle design to improve fuel efficiency and crash performance

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for producing a die casting part and a die casting part produced with said method. According to the invention, an excellent punch-riveting suitability is achieved when the die casting part has a curable aluminium alloy with the following alloy constituents: 5.0 to 9.0 wt.-% silicon (Si), 0.25 to 0.5 wt.-% magnesium (Mg) and as the remainder aluminium and unavoidable impurities caused by production each with max. 0.05 wt.-% and in total at most 0.15 wt.-%, wherein the die casting part has a yield point (Rp0.2) of greater than 190 MPa and an elongation at break (A5) of greater than or equal to 7 %, and uniform strain (Ag) and necking strain (Az) meet the condition Az ≥ Ag/2.
