Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes a method for producing a polymer nonwoven fabric by blending a thermoplastic elastomer (such as thermoplastic polyurethane) with another thermoplastic material (e.g., polypropylene or polyethylene). Fibers are produced from this polymer blend and formed into a nonwoven semi-finished product. The semi-finished nonwoven is then mechanically stretched and relaxed, which increases its thickness and volume, resulting in a highly bulky nonwoven fabric suitable for various applications, particularly where high absorbency or fluid distribution properties are needed.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Absorbent layers (Acquisition Distribution Layers) in products like baby diapers or sanitary napkins
  • Filter materials in respiratory masks, vacuum cleaner bags, or replaceable filters
  • Carrier substrates for catalyst particles, activated carbon, or superabsorbent materials
  • Lightweight, voluminous textiles for insulation or cushioning
  • Medical wound dressings requiring absorbing or wicking properties

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Provides a method to obtain voluminous, thick nonwoven fabrics at the point of use or processing, saving storage and transportation space
  • Simplifies manufacturing by avoiding complex lamination or multi-fiber blends
  • Allows controlled adjustment of nonwoven volume and pore size via mechanical stretching
  • Improves fluid absorption and distribution properties, making it ideal for hygiene and filtration products
  • Uses a single fiber type for the nonwoven, reducing complexity and potentially lowering production costs

Patent Abstract

The method according to the invention is used to manufacture a polymer nonwoven fabric (1). For this purpose, a polymer blend of a thermoplastic elastomer and an additional thermoplastic material is provided, fibers (6) are produced from the polymer blend, and a nonwoven semi-finished product (8) is formed from the fibers. In order to then produce the polymer nonwoven fabric (1), a volume increase is produced by mechanical stretching of the nonwoven semi-finished product (8) and subsequent relaxation.
