Lamp Socket for an Electric Lamp
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a lamp socket for electric lamps, particularly suited for vehicles, that features a plastic housing with at least one embedded metal contact tab (for electrical connectivity). The key innovation is a special coating applied between the plastic part and the metal contact tab, improving both the adhesion and seal (tightness) at their interface. This coating—potentially enhanced with sealing strips—ensures high durability and resistance to moisture or contaminants, while simplifying the manufacturing process compared to traditional sockets that require complex sealing steps.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Automotive headlamps and taillamps to prevent moisture ingress and ensure reliable electrical contact.
- Industrial lighting fixtures where robust environmental sealing is required.
- Outdoor or weatherproof electrical connectors that need high levels of sealing and mechanical integrity.
- Consumer electronic products with LED or other lamp sockets that must be protected against environmental factors.
- Aviation, marine, or railway lighting systems where vibration and environmental sealing are critical.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Greatly improved sealing between the contact tab and plastic housing, reducing the risk of moisture or contaminant ingress.
- Enhanced adhesive strength, resulting in more durable and longer-lasting lamp sockets.
- Simplified manufacturing: eliminates steps like silicone potting, thereby reducing costs and complexity.
- Flexible technology: can be applied to different contact geometries, metals, and coating methods, allowing wide adoption across connector types.
- Allows for miniaturization and more compact lamp/housing designs thanks to robust and space-efficient sealing interfaces.
- Improved safety and reliability of electrical lamps, especially in harsh environments.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a lamp socket for an electric lamp, preferably a motor vehicle lamp, comprising a plastic socket part and at least one contact tab provided in the plastic socket part for power supply. Between the plastic socket part and the contact tab, at least in sections on the contact tab, a coating is provided for increasing the adhesive strength and tightness between the contact tab and the contact socket part. This can be supported by the application of sealing strips. The result is a plastic socket meeting high sealing requirements with simple production effort.
