Method and Device for In-Situ Determination of Operating States of Working Machines
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method and device for in-situ monitoring of the operational states of working machines, especially pumps like progressive cavity pumps. The invention uses strain sensors (particularly strain gauges) mounted directly on the drive shaft, or on a detachable clamp that fits around the shaft, to measure torque and axial load. The system allows continuous monitoring to detect changes in machine condition, helping to optimize performance and spot early warning signs of wear or malfunction.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Monitoring oil well pumps in petroleum extraction to prevent failures and maximize pump efficiency.
- Implementing preventative maintenance systems for industrial pumps in manufacturing plants.
- Retrofitting existing pumps with non-invasive operation monitoring devices for real-time data gathering.
- Integrating with wireless systems for remote condition monitoring of pumps and other rotary equipment in hard-to-reach areas.
- Using in research laboratories for testing and analyzing pump behaviors under dynamic loads.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Provides real-time, in-situ measurement of key stress factors (torque, axial load) without dismantling machinery.
- Enables early detection of wear, malfunctions, or unfavorable operating conditions, improving reliability.
- The detachable clamp design allows for fast installation and removal without permanent modification to machinery.
- Can be adapted retroactively to various machine types, offering flexibility and cost savings.
- Supports predictive maintenance practices, reducing unplanned downtime and operational costs.
- Enhanced safety and performance by allowing for optimal machine operation through continuous monitoring.
- Wireless data transmission capability enables convenient integration into remote condition monitoring setups.

Patent Abstract
Disclosed is a method for in situ determination of the operating states of driven machines, especially pumps, including eccentric screw pumps. In said method, the operating states are sensed and monitored on the drive shaft (1) of the driven machine by means of strain sensors, particularly strain gauges (2, 3) which are arranged and mounted in such a way as to allow the torque (M) and axial load (Fax) of the drive shaft (1) to be sensed. A device for carrying out said method is disposed in such a way that the same is designed as a clip (4) that is composed of at least two parts, is to be releasably mounted on the drive shaft (1), and is equipped with strain sensors, particularly strain gauges, on the inside in such an arrangement and assembly that said strain sensors/gauges allow the torque (M) and axial load (Fax) of the drive shaft (1) to be sensed.
