Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes a method for generating a highly personalized patient model that combines a digital representation of a patient's outer body surface and internal organ structures. The process is based on easily collected patient metadata (such as weight, height, gender, and position/pose) and uses both surface model and medical imaging databases. The result is a digital 3D model reflecting both the external appearance and internal anatomy of a specific patient, without the need for additional imaging of that particular patient.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Optimizing and personalizing positioning and dose calculations for medical imaging procedures (e.g., CT, X-ray, or angiography).
  • Improving precision in radiation therapy planning by accurately modeling organ location and patient surface.
  • Supporting collision avoidance for medical imaging or therapy devices by providing a digital twin of the patient for simulation.
  • Automatic adjustment and optimization of imaging device parameters based on the patient's individual model.
  • Training, education, and simulation for healthcare staff using realistic patient avatars.
  • Pre-surgical planning and navigation by visualizing patient-specific anatomy without the need for new scans.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Creates accurate, individualized 3D patient models using only standard patient data (metadata) without requiring new imaging procedures.
  • Enables better patient safety by allowing precise dose calculations and optimizing device settings, reducing risk of overexposure or errors.
  • Facilitates workflow in medical imaging and therapy, including automatic patient/device positioning and collision avoidance.
  • Accessible and fast, as the models can be generated almost instantly from existing patient data.
  • Flexible and robust in application, as it accounts for both external and internal anatomy and is adaptable to various poses or physical conditions of the patient.
  • Potentially reduces costs and patient inconvenience by minimizing the need for extra scans or manual measurements.

Patent Abstract

A method is for calculating a personalized patient model including an external surface model of a patient and an organ model of the patient. In an embodiment, the method includes acquiring metadata of the patient, the metadata being assigned to at least one metadata category; ascertaining, using the patient metadata acquired, the external surface model of the patient and an internal anatomical model of the patient, the internal anatomical model including a body cavity of the patient; ascertaining the organ model of the patient using the patient metadata acquired and using the internal anatomical model of the patient ascertained; and calculating the personalized patient model, the external surface model of the patient ascertained and the organ model of the patient ascertained, being combined.
