Method for Calculating a Position of an Object of Interest
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method to more accurately determine the position of a moving object (like an athlete or vehicle) in an environment using a wireless local positioning system. The system intelligently predicts the object's expected position and orientation, takes into account how its body may block signal transmission, and selectively chooses only those signal measurements from base stations likely to have reliable line-of-sight communication, thus reducing errors from signal reflections and obstructions.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Tracking athletes or players in real time during sports events for performance analysis, coaching, or broadcast enhancement.
- Tracking racecars or vehicles on a circuit or monitored zone to ensure precise measurement for sports officiating, analytics, or safety systems.
- Monitoring positions and movements of personnel or equipment in warehouses and industrial sites for process optimization and safety.
- Ensuring accurate localization in complex, cluttered environments such as hospitals, amusement parks, or shopping malls.
- Robust indoor navigation and tracking where GPS is unavailable or unreliable.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly reduces positioning errors caused by signal reflections (multipath) and obstructions (non-line-of-sight), leading to more accurate location data.
- Enables real-time tracking of fast-moving subjects with robust reliability in dynamic environments, such as sports fields or crowded areas.
- Optimizes computation and processing by ignoring unreliable base stations, improving efficiency and possibly battery life in portable systems.
- Adapts dynamically as objects move and environments change, maintaining high reliability even with nearby moving obstacles.
- Supports flexible deployment in a wide range of environments, from sports arenas to industrial facilities and indoor settings.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for calculating a position (AcPos) of an object of interest (OI) in an environment (ENV). According to the invention, the method comprising the steps of: - predicting a position (PdPos) and an orientation (PdOri) of the object of interest (OI) in the environment (ENV) - selecting a subset of base stations (BS2-BS6) among a set of base stations (BS1-BS12) located within the environment (ENV), by using the predicted position (PdPos) and orientation (PdOri), and a radiation pattern (RdP) of a system (OI/MT) comprising the object of interest (OI) and a mobile transponder (MT) attached to the object of interest (OI) - calculating an actual position (AcPos) of the object of interest (OI), using time of arrival or time difference of arrival measurements between the base stations of the subset (BS1-BS12) and the mobile transponder (MT).
