Phosphorus Doped Pgm-Type Catalysts and Catalytic System for Storing and Releasing of Hydrogen of Organic Hydrogen Carriers
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent discloses a phosphorus-doped platinum group metal (PGM) catalyst supported on a solid material that significantly improves both the storage and release of hydrogen from liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs). By optimizing the phosphorus content and its chemical state in the catalyst, the invention enables more efficient, lower-temperature, and faster hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions, facilitating reliable hydrogen supply for fuel cells, particularly in transport and energy storage applications.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Supplying hydrogen on-demand to fuel cells in electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles (cars, buses, trucks, trains, ships)
- Stationary hydrogen storage and release systems for renewable energy integration (e.g., solar/wind energy storage)
- On-site hydrogen generation for industrial processes requiring high-purity hydrogen
- Retrofit or replacement technology for existing hydrogen fueling systems, avoiding high-pressure/cryogenic storage
- Safe hydrogen transport over distances using LOHCs and this catalyst for energy storage/distribution networks
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables safer, denser, and more practical hydrogen storage and transport via LOHCs, reducing the need for high-pressure or cryogenic systems
- Significantly increases the efficiency and speed of hydrogen charging (hydrogenation) and discharging (dehydrogenation)
- Allows use at lower temperatures compatible with conventional fuel cells, reducing energy consumption and improving overall system efficiency
- Improves catalyst stability and reduces unwanted decomposition products, extending catalyst and LOHC life cycles
- Facilitates flexible integration with existing fuel-cell and hydrogen infrastructure, reducing retooling costs and operational risks

Patent Abstract
The present invention is directed to catalysts and their production which can be used to hydrogenate and dehydrogenate an organic hydrogen carrier compound. The catalysts is composed of a specially phosphorus doped PGM-type catalyst. It can be used to store and release hydrogen upon demand, e.g. for usage in fuel cells of electrically propelled vehicles. Likewise, an apparatus comprising the inventive catalyst and its use is contemplated.
