Devices, methods and signals for OFDM encoding
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention presents new devices, methods, and signals for encoding and decoding data with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). It proposes a way to add specific, predetermined sections—such as unique words or patterns—at the edges of OFDM symbols, integrating redundancy directly into the symbol structure. By optimizing how subcarriers are used for both data and these redundant sections, this approach reduces the need for separate guard intervals, enhances channel equalization, and supports better synchronization and channel estimation, ultimately enabling higher data rates and improved error performance over existing OFDM schemes like Cyclic Prefix (CP-OFDM) and Zero Padding (ZP-OFDM).
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Wireless broadband communications (WLAN, WiFi, WiMAX)
- Digital broadcasting (DAB, DVB)
- High-speed wired transmissions (DSL, Ethernet over OFDM)
- Industrial and vehicular networks needing robust, high-throughput wireless links
- Advanced mobile communications (4G/5G systems)
- Military or mission-critical wireless communications with increased reliability demands
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Higher data transmission rates due to elimination or shortening of traditional guard intervals
- Reduced symbol spacing, increasing spectral efficiency
- Simplified or improved channel equalization compared to conventional ZP-OFDM and CP-OFDM
- Enhanced channel estimation and synchronization from predictable symbol segments
- Potential for lower error rates or higher throughput at equivalent error rates
- Redundancy can be optimized for energy efficiency and system performance
- Flexible balance between data, redundancy, and guard function enabling adaptation to diverse channel conditions

Patent Abstract
The coder has a modulation device (8) provided for modulation of a portion (5) of a sub-carrier set dependent upon a portion (4) of orthogonal sub-carrier set in a frequency range such that orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-symbols have pre-determined sections (1). The sections lie at an end of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-symbols (Si). The number of sub-carriers is smaller that the number of values of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-symbols in the pre-determined sections. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for implementing orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-coding process (2) a method for decoding orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-signals.
