Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention describes a magnetically tunable filter optimized for high-frequency applications, such as spectrum and network analyzers. The filter uses two magnetically tunable resonator spheres, placed in parallel filter arms on a coplanar transmission line structure set on a substrate. A common coupling opening links the filter arms, and the resonance frequency can be precisely adjusted using an external magnetic field. The design ensures low signal loss in the passband, high isolation in the stop band, and broad frequency tuning capability.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Variable band-pass filtering in high-frequency spectrum analyzers for measurement and diagnostics.
  • Tunable filtering in network analyzers for characterizing microwave and millimeter-wave components.
  • Adaptive filtering in advanced communication systems operating at tens of gigahertz.
  • Frequency-selective channels in radar and satellite communications hardware.
  • Magnetic field-controlled filters for research and laboratory measurement instruments.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Wide frequency tuning range (e.g., 40–75 GHz), facilitating versatile use in many high-frequency applications.
  • Low insertion loss in the passband, enhancing signal transmission quality.
  • High off-resonance isolation between input and output, minimizing signal leakage and crosstalk.
  • Magnetically controlled resonance enables rapid, precise, and non-contact adjustment.
  • Compact, planar coplanar-waveguide design suitable for modern miniaturized electronics.
  • Reduced excitation of unwanted modes due to careful electromagnetic design, ensuring cleaner signal filtering.

Patent Abstract

The magnetically tunable filter (1) comprises a filter housing (2) and two tunable resonator spheres (3a,3b) which are made of magnetic material and are disposed next to one another in two filter arms (4a,4b). Each filter arm is provided with a coplanar line (7) that is arranged on a substrate layer and extends in the direction of an electrical terminal (6). The two filter arms are interconnected by a common coupling hole (8). One respective resonator sphere is placed on each of the two sides of the coupling hole within the filter arms.
