Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes a process for manufacturing a bearing cage made of graphite, which is used to hold rolling elements in a rolling bearing. The process involves injection molding a mass containing carbon mesophase powder to form the cage, followed by a heat treatment to convert the carbon into pure graphite. This method replaces traditional, difficult, and costly machining methods, resulting in more efficient production of graphite cages for bearings.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Bearings in vacuum technology where lubrication is not possible
  • Bearings used in food processing machinery needing dry-running ability
  • Bearings in environments with high temperatures that exceed lubricants' limits (e.g., near combustion engines)
  • Rolling bearings in corrosive environments where resistance and minimal lubrication are required
  • Precision machinery needing maintenance-free, self-lubricating bearings

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Enables cost-effective mass production of graphite cages via injection molding
  • Eliminates the need for complex and expensive machining processes
  • Provides self-lubricating bearing cages suitable for dry-running or minimal lubrication applications
  • Allows flexible cage geometry, enabling customized designs for various bearing types (ball, needle, roller, etc.)
  • Improves durability and chemical/thermal stability in challenging environments
  • Reduces risk of fracture during manufacturing compared to ceramic cages
  • Facilitates bearings usable in food, vacuum, high-temperature, or corrosive applications

Patent Abstract

A process for producing a graphite cage for an anti-friction bearing, which cage holds a plurality of anti-friction elements, characterized in that a cage injection moulding is injected in an injection moulding process from a mass comprising carbon mesophase powder, and this cage injection moulding is subsequently heat-treated in order to transform the carbon from the mesophase into pure graphite.
