Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention is a specialized X-ray device designed for breast imaging (mammography). The core innovation is a compact gantry (the part of the device that houses the X-ray tube and detector) that is rigidly integrated into the patient examination table. The gantry can rotate around a vertical axis and move vertically during imaging, operated in coordination with its rotation, to produce high-resolution spiral scans of the breast with minimized mechanical vibrations and artifacts. The patient lies on the table with her breast extended through a cutout into the imaging area, improving comfort and image access.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Medical screening for breast cancer and other breast diseases via high-resolution mammography.
  • Diagnostic follow-up imaging after detection of abnormalities in breast tissue.
  • Guidance for performing biopsy procedures, as the open space under the device allows additional instruments to be used during imaging.
  • Breast imaging in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and potentially mobile screening units, given the device's compact design and optional wheels.
  • Research and clinical trials needing precise and reproducible breast imaging.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Improved image quality and resolution due to rigid gantry-table integration, reducing vibration-induced artifacts.
  • Increased comfort for patients through a more ergonomic lying position and easy breast access.
  • Compact and space-saving design compared to traditional mammography/CT systems.
  • Facilitates combined diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (e.g., image-guided biopsies) thanks to open space below the gantry.
  • Easier adjustment of table height and tilt, and device mobility via wheels, enhancing versatility in clinical settings.
  • Reduces setup errors and ensures consistent scan quality as the alignment between the gantry and patient remains fixed.

Patent Abstract

The X-ray machine has X-ray unit having an X-ray tube and X-ray detector, and a horizontal arranged patient couch (20) with a chest cutout (21) for receptacle of a female patient (30). A gantry (10) rotating around vertical axis of rotation is provided with the X-ray tube and X-ray detector. The gantry is suspended at the patient couch in mechanically rigid manner for imaging of the breast in continuous rotational movement. The gantry is moved in vertical direction by a gantry lift drive (11), where the vertical movement is carried in response to the rotational movement.
