Bioreactor and Method for Operating the Same
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The invention describes an advanced bioreactor and its operating method, designed specifically to produce, regenerate, and mature soft tissues—especially skeletal muscle tissue—for transplantation or research. It features a reactor chamber equipped with a suite of automated sensors and actuators that monitor key tissue properties in real-time and dynamically adjust environmental and process conditions (e.g., pH, oxygen level, temperature, electrical and mechanical stimulation) to optimize tissue quality. The process is largely noninvasive and automated, ensuring continuous quality monitoring and adjustment without disrupting tissue growth.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Manufacturing engineered skeletal muscle tissues for transplantation in patients with muscle loss or injuries.
- Production of other types of soft tissues (e.g., cardiac, vascular, or connective tissues) for regenerative medicine applications.
- Laboratory research platform for studying tissue development, disease modeling, or pharmaceutical testing.
- Quality-controlled generation of tissues for testing biomaterials or medical devices in vitro.
- Educational tool for teaching tissue engineering and bioprocess control.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables real-time, automated, noninvasive monitoring and control of tissue development, ensuring high-quality tissue products.
- Reduces risk of contamination and manual errors by limiting the need to handle tissue during processing.
- Allows dynamic adjustment of the cultivation environment based on actual tissue status, increasing reproducibility and yield.
- Facilitates the production of complex, vascularized soft tissues that closely mimic native structures, potentially improving clinical outcomes.
- Streamlines tissue engineering workflows and reduces labor costs by automating process steps including media exchange, cell loading, and conditioning.
- Provides detailed process feedback, which can improve understanding and optimization of tissue growth protocols.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a bioreactor (2) comprising a reactor chamber (4) for producing a soft tissue (6), comprising an analysis unit (8) for measuring a number of tissue parameters (G) of the soft tissue (6), comprising a conditioning unit (10) for conditioning the soft tissue (6) according to a number of process parameters (P), comprising a control unit (12) which controls the analysis unit (8) and the conditioning unit (10) in such a way that during manufacture the tissue parameters (G) are measured and the process parameters (P) are set depending on the tissue parameters (G), so that the soft tissue (6) is conditioned depending on the tissue parameters (G). The invention also relates to a method for operating the bioreactor (2).
