Circular Hopping Pattern
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent describes a method and system for transmitting data in wireless communication systems that share a frequency band, such as low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN). The core idea is to split each data packet into multiple smaller sub-packets, and transmit these using a 'circular hopping pattern' derived from a basic pattern that can be shifted in time and/or frequency. This hopping pattern allows the sub-packets to be spread out across the available channels and/or time slots, reducing the chance of interference and collisions. The approach also includes efficient detection methods in the receiving base station to lower computational effort, particularly benefiting battery-powered devices.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Wireless sensor networks in industrial IoT (Internet of Things) environments.
- Smart metering systems for utilities (electricity, water, gas).
- Asset tracking with a large number of distributed low-power nodes.
- Smart agriculture and environmental monitoring systems.
- Home and building automation using wireless sensors and controllers.
- Healthcare monitoring systems using wearable or remote sensors.
- Any application using LPWAN technologies where frequency bands are shared among many independent networks.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reduces the risk of collisions and interference when multiple independent wireless systems share the same frequency band.
- Enables efficient use of available frequency and time slots, increasing network capacity and robustness.
- Significantly lowers the computational workload in receiver devices (e.g., battery-powered base stations), saving energy and prolonging device life.
- Improves the reliability and security of data transmission using pseudo-random or secure shift mechanisms for hopping patterns.
- Flexible adaptation to different application needs (low latency or high robustness) through customizable hopping patterns.
- Supports large-scale deployments with many end devices due to scalable collision avoidance.
- Complies with regulatory requirements for fair and distributed spectrum usage.

Patent Abstract
Embodiments provide a data transmitter of a communications system, wherein the communications system communicates wirelessly in a frequency band which is used by a plurality of communications system for communication, wherein the data transmitter is designed to divide a data packet due for transmission into a plurality of sub-data-packets, which are each shorter than the data packet, wherein the data transmitter is designed to send out a data signal including the plurality of sub-data-packets according to a hopping pattern in order to transmit the plurality of sub-data-packets in a distributed manner according to a frequency- and/or time-hop-based assignment of the frequency band specified by the hopping pattern, wherein the data transmitter si is designed to derive the hopping pattern from a basic hopping pattern based on a shifting of the basic hopping pattern in frequency and/or time.
