Reactor
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a chemical reactor equipped with a system for circulating a sorption agent that selectively removes reaction products as they form, thereby shifting chemical equilibria to increase product yield. The invention uniquely features a cooling device in the recirculation path which cools the sorption agent after product removal and before it re-enters the reaction chamber. This prevents thermal degradation of the sorption agent and enhances process efficiency, especially for reactions limited by equilibrium constraints.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Industrial-scale synthesis of chemicals like methanol or ammonia where equilibrium limits the conversion rate.
- Production of high-purity chemicals by continuously removing products from the reaction zone.
- Processes where heat management and precise temperature control are critical for product selectivity or catalyst longevity.
- Any chemical process utilizing a liquid sorption agent to enhance chemical conversion rates.
- Upgrade of existing reactor systems to improve yield and efficiency through continuous product removal and sorbent recirculation.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Increases the achievable yield of equilibrium-limited chemical reactions by continuously removing products.
- Prevents thermal decomposition of the sorption agent, allowing use of more efficient sorbents.
- Improves thermal management within the reactor, supporting isothermal operation.
- Enhances catalyst life by minimizing temperature spikes and deactivation risks.
- Can be retrofitted to existing reactor designs, improving efficiency with limited infrastructure changes.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a reactor comprising a reaction chamber (4) on which a feed device (6) for reactants (7), a feed device (8) for a sorption agent (9) and an outlet device (10) for the sorption agent (9) are arranged. The outlet device (10) is connected to the feed device (8), and a feed device (17) for recirculating the sorption agent (9, 9') is arranged between the outlet device (10) and the feed device (8). The invention is characterised in that a cooling device (13) for cooling the sorption agent (9) is arranged between the outlet device (10) and the feed device (8).
