Power Plant Installation
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a novel power plant installation that utilizes both energy generation units (such as renewable sources) and energy storage systems, connected via isolated component grids. These isolated grids are electrically decoupled from the main grid through converters and are managed by a control system that optimizes the export of electricity into the external grid. The design mitigates the fluctuations typical of renewable energy sources and allows the aggregate system to mimic the stable behavior of a conventional power plant.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Integration of renewable energy (e.g., wind, solar) into national or regional power grids while stabilizing output.
- Development of hybrid power plants that combine various renewable generators and energy storage technologies.
- Replacement or supplementation of conventional power plants to provide grid stability and ancillary services.
- Microgrid or distributed energy system deployments in urban or rural environments with variable renewable energy production.
- Industrial or large-scale community power supply aiming for reliable, dispatchable renewable energy.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reduces the impact of fluctuating renewable generation on the main power grid, improving reliability.
- Enables a wide range of renewable and storage technologies to work in concert, enhancing system flexibility.
- Allows the aggregated plant to behave like a conventional plant, making renewables a true substitute for fossil-based power.
- Potentially lowers grid expansion costs by reducing local overloads and facilitating distributed energy resource integration.
- Minimizes communication, infrastructure, and coordination requirements compared to virtual power plant concepts.
- Improves grid stability and offers ancillary services (such as frequency and voltage regulation) typically provided by traditional generators.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a power plant installation (5) having a feed connection (30) for feeding energy into an external energy supply grid (40) and at least one energy-generating unit (100). The invention provides that the power plant installation (5) has at least one energy storage unit (200) and at least one isolated component grid (10) which is connected to the feed connection (30) via a converter (20) of the power plant installation (5) and is electrically isolated from the feed connection (30) and the external energy supply grid (40) by the converter (20), the at least one energy-generating unit (100) and/or the at least one energy storage unit (100) are connected to the isolated component network (10), and the powerplant installation (5) has a control device (50) which, by actuating the converter (20), the energy-generating unit (200) and/or the energy storage unit (200), adjusts the feed behaviour of the power plant installation (5) which is effective towards the outside at the feed connection (30).
