Device for Pumping Two Fluid Flows
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The patent describes a device capable of simultaneously pumping two separate fluid flows (such as air or liquid), using a special vaneless rotor arranged in a transverse flow configuration. This unique arrangement allows each fluid stream to partially interact with the rotor for transport, while also enabling regenerative heat exchange between the two streams. The device serves both as a friction pump and as a heat exchanger, making it particularly useful for ventilation systems with energy recovery.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Ventilation systems in buildings for simultaneous air supply and exhaust with heat recovery
- Energy-efficient HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) units for homes and offices
- Water treatment processes involving separation and heat transfer between liquid and gas streams
- Industrial applications requiring controlled transfer and temperature regulation of different fluids
- Combined supply and exhaust ventilation units for vehicles or transportation systems
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Provides simultaneous pumping of two separate fluid streams, reducing the need for multiple devices
- Enables efficient heat recovery between the two fluids, improving energy efficiency
- Minimizes noise due to the vaneless, friction-based rotor design
- Compact and simple construction leads to lower manufacturing and installation costs
- Reduces overall size, complexity, and components required in ventilation/heating systems
- Can be constructed to handle both gases and liquids, increasing versatility
- Improves indoor air quality while minimizing energy loss in ventilation applications

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a device (20) for pumping a first fluid flow (24) and a second fluid flow (26), said device comprising a first fluid channel (21) for conducting the first fluid flow (24) along a first flow direction (25) and a second fluid channel (22), which is separate from the first fluid channel (21), for conducting the second fluid flow (26) along a second flow direction (27). A rotor (1) with a vaneless impeller (3), upon which each fluid flow (24, 26) partially impinges, is provided in a transverse flow arrangement relative to the two flow directions (25, 27) in order to pump the fluid flows (24, 26). The invention further relates to a ventilating system (51) for supplying and extracting air to/from an interior (52), said system comprising such a device (20). The device (20) functions simultaneously as a transverse flow friction pump and as a transverse flow regenerative heat exchanger.
