Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention provides a method and apparatus for quickly detecting and interrupting faults on high-voltage power lines. When a fault is detected, it calculates the location of the fault, sends a signal to open the circuit breaker to disconnect the affected line, and measures the time of the interruption. It also monitors the status of other conductors to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the electrical grid.

Patent Abstract

The method involves determining an actual fault distance between a fault location of the fault to the high voltage conductor afflicted with the fault and to the protection apparatus (1). An opening signal is generated for opening a circuit breaker (8) so that the high voltage conductor is disconnected from the mains, and the measurement of pause time is started. The voltage and the current on the other non-faulty high-voltage conductors are measured. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a protection apparatus with a processor unit for controlling a circuit breaker switched in a high voltage conductor of a high voltage line; and (2) a protection device for a high voltage line.
