Die Erfindung betrifft ein Werkzeug zum Einsatz beim Aluminiumguss, welches aus einem Stahl hergestellt ist, bei dem sich beim Abkühlen eine γ-Fe-Phase in zumindest eine der folgenden Phasen umwandelt: α-Fe-Phase, Carbidphase, Bainit, Martensit, wobei eine mittels CVD-Verfahren hergestellte kristalline Diamantschicht auf einer auf der Oberfläche des Stahls gebildeten Zwischenschicht aufgebracht ist, welche aus einem Nitrid oder Carbid eines Refraktärmetalls oder aus Silizium gebildet ist.
