3D Printing Device
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention discloses a 3D printer equipped with a transparent print head and printing plate, designed for extruding transparent ink or 'bio-ink' strands. It utilizes an imaging system to project a patterned background (like stripes or squares) and includes an optical recording device that captures images from beneath the transparent plate as the ink is deposited. By analyzing the visual distortions caused by the extruded strand on the pattern, the device's controller can determine key parameters such as the strand's width, curvature, height, and flow behavior in real-time. This enables more precise control and optimization of the 3D printing process, especially useful for printing delicate or biological materials.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Bioprinting of tissues or organ scaffolds for regenerative medicine using bio-inks.
- Manufacturing precise 3D plastic or polymer components with advanced quality control.
- Real-time monitoring and adjustment in additive manufacturing for research or high-value production.
- Production of custom implants or prosthetics with ensured dimensional accuracy.
- Development and calibration of new printing materials, including hydrogels and biomaterials.
- Educational and research applications in 3D printing of transparent or semi-transparent polymers.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Enables precise real-time measurement and control of extruded strand properties (width, height, curvature), improving print quality.
- Facilitates inline feedback and process optimization, especially critical for sensitive materials like bio-inks.
- Allows for calibration and verification using known standards, improving accuracy and reliability.
- Supports advanced applications such as tissue engineering, where cell viability and structure must be tightly controlled.
- Reduces variability due to complex fluid behaviors, particularly with low-viscosity or non-Newtonian materials.
- Adaptable to different pattern types for versatile measurement strategies across print geometries and material types.

Patent Abstract
The invention specifies a 3D printer (1), which has a print head (6) for extruding a transparent ink strand (8), and has a transparent printing plate (10) for depositing the extruded ink strand (8). The 3D printer (1) also has an imaging apparatus (20), which provides a pattern formed at least from straight strips (22), and an optical recording device (14), which is designed to record an image (30) of the pattern and also of the deposited ink strand (8) during the designated printing operation by the 3D printer (1) from a bottom side (18) of the printing plate (10). The 3D printer (1) also has a controller (12), which is designed to derive at least one variable, which is characteristic of the printing operation, from the image (30) recorded by means of the recording device (14).
