Lkktet And/or Lkktnt Peptide Compositions and Methods
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This patent discloses ophthalmic (eye) compositions containing short peptides with the amino acid sequences LKKTET or LKKTNT (or their conservative variants), which are derived from thymosin beta-4 and related proteins. These compositions can be delivered as eye drops, gels, ointments, or other pharmaceutical or cosmetic forms, and are formulated to treat, protect, or repair eye tissue. The patent also describes how these peptides mitigate damaging effects caused by preservatives (such as benzalkonium chloride) found in many commercial eye solutions, and promote corneal healing, reduce inflammation, and protect against cell death (apoptosis). The formulations include various excipients to ensure safety, comfort, stability, and efficacy for ocular administration.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- As an additive in eye drops containing preservatives like benzalkonium chloride to reduce irritation and tissue damage.
- Standalone or adjunctive therapy for treating corneal injuries (e.g., from surgery, trauma, chemical burns, LASIK procedures, or recurrent erosion).
- To accelerate and improve healing of corneal and ocular surface wounds.
- Treatment of ocular surface inflammation, such as conjunctivitis, blepharitis, keratitis, uveitis, and scleritis, with or without corticosteroids.
- Supporting therapy for glaucoma by protecting against preservative-induced damage from chronic eye drop use.
- Treatment or prevention of dry eye syndrome.
- Cosmetic use in formulations to enhance comfort and protect the eye from environmental irritants.
- Potential use in other topical (skin or mucosal) applications where preservatives might cause damage.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reduces eye surface irritation and damage caused by common preservatives in eye care products (especially benzalkonium chloride).
- Promotes faster and more effective healing of damaged eye tissues.
- Provides anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects, contributing to healthier eye tissues.
- Improves comfort and tolerance of chronic or repeated ocular drug administration.
- Can be integrated into existing eye drop formulations without significant changes in administration routines.
- Versatile formulation options (solution, gel, ointment, etc.) for various clinical and cosmetic applications.
- May help reduce reliance on corticosteroids by providing steroid-sparing anti-inflammatory action.
- Supports prevention of long-term side effects from chronic use of preservative-containing eye drops.

Patent Abstract
A composition including a peptide agent including amino acid sequence LKKTET or LKKTNT, a conservative variant thereof, or a stimulating agent that stimulates production of an LKKTET or LKKTNT peptide, or a conservative variant thereof, and an opthalmically acceptable carrier, an antimicrobially effective preservative, a tonicity agent for providing the composition with an opthalmically acceptable tonicity, a comfort enhancing agent, at least one o f an acidic or basic pH adjusting agent capable of adjusting pH of the composition to a desired ophthalmically acceptable pH level, and a buffer to substantially maintain the desired pH level.
