Method for Operating a Magnetic-Inductive Flow Meter and a Magnetic-Inductive Flow Meter
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention describes a method and device for operating a magneto-inductive flowmeter, which measures the flow rate or velocity of electrically conductive fluids in a pipe using a magnetic field. The innovation lies in how the device processes and corrects raw measurement data to better distinguish between real flow signals and interference (such as electrochemical noise) using a combination of predictive algorithms (like a Kalman filter), comparison of multiple electrode signals, and efficient phase switching. The goal is to achieve accurate measurements while significantly reducing the device's energy consumption.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Real-time flow monitoring in industrial process control for liquids such as water, chemicals, and wastewater.
- Battery- or solar-powered flowmeters for remote or hard-to-access locations where low energy use is critical.
- Accurate dosing control in pharmaceutical, food, or chemical manufacturing processes.
- Smart water meter systems for municipal or building water management, requiring low-maintenance and long battery life.
- Flow measurement in laboratory or pilot plant environments with fluctuating flow conditions or external electromagnetic disturbances.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Reduced energy consumption, allowing for longer operational periods or battery-operated/solar-powered deployments.
- Higher measurement accuracy due to improved correction of interference and noise.
- Lower maintenance needs thanks to less frequent recalibration and more robust signal discrimination.
- Suitable for a range of conductive fluids and variable flow conditions.
- Enhanced reliability in environments with variable or high electromagnetic interference.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for operating a magnetoinductive flowmeter (1) and to such a flowmeter, wherein, during a constant phase (K) having a constant magnetic field, a plurality of raw measured values (RM(t)) of the raw measurement voltage are determined, wherein the raw measurement voltage (R) is composed of a flow-dependent component (D), an interference component (S) and a noise component (N), wherein each raw measured value (RM(t)) is respectively assigned a flow measured value and an interference voltage value, wherein a raw measured value from a preceding first constant phase and a raw measured value from a second constant phase following the first constant phase, are used to calculate a second flow measured value and a second interference voltage value of the interference component, wherein first flow measured values from the first constant phase and/or second constant phase are corrected by means of the knowledge of the second flow measured value and the calculated second interference voltage value.
