Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This invention is a medical device that uses time-of-flight sensors and modulated light to detect and analyze a patient's breathing patterns in multiple dimensions. By shining controlled, modulated light onto the patient's body and measuring the reflected signals, the device can accurately capture depth data related to breathing. This information assists in the treatment of tumors, particularly during procedures where precise monitoring of breathing is critical.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Guiding and monitoring patients' breathing during radiation therapy for tumor treatment to minimize movement and improve targeting accuracy.
  • Assisting surgeons during surgery to account for respiratory motion and improve surgical precision.
  • Integrating with respiratory monitoring systems in intensive care units or during anesthesia.
  • Enabling advanced diagnostic procedures where accurate breath cycle data is needed, such as lung function testing or imaging.

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Provides highly accurate, multi-dimensional monitoring of breath signals, enhancing the precision of medical procedures.
  • Non-invasive measurement technique improves patient comfort and reduces the risk of infection.
  • Improves treatment outcomes for tumor therapies by compensating for respiratory motion.
  • May help reduce errors or complications related to patient movement during critical medical procedures.

Patent Abstract

The device (500) has a time-of-flight based sensor for receiving light reflected from a body region of a patient and generating a sensor signal representing the received light. A modulation unit (103) controls a light source (106) according to modulation information such that the light source transmits a modulated light signal to the body region of the patient. An evaluation unit (104) e.g. digital signal processor, is connected with the sensor for evaluating the sensor signal by using the modulation information to evaluate depth data that is used to compute multi-dimensional breath signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for acquisition of depth data to detect a multidimensional breath signal of a patient.
