Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

This patent describes a precise and efficient method and device for measuring iron losses in laminated iron cores, such as those used in electric machines like transformers and motors. It achieves this by magnetically coupling a measuring coil (in a resonant circuit) to the iron core and then determining the resonance frequency and/or quality factor (Q) of the circuit, which serve as direct indicators of core losses. This approach enables fast, non-destructive evaluation, and can be integrated into industrial production lines for continuous quality control.

Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Inline quality inspection during the manufacturing of transformer and motor cores to detect defective laminations or assembly errors
  • Non-destructive evaluation of magnetic core losses in research and development labs
  • Automated testing of iron cores prior to winding in stator, rotor, or transformer fabrication
  • Detection of unwelcome material changes (such as improper insulation or alloy inconsistencies) in electrical steel sheets
  • Statistical analysis and documentation of batch quality for compliance and traceability in electrical steel processing plants

BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.

  • Provides rapid and accurate measurement of iron losses without assembling complete magnetic circuits or windings, saving time and materials
  • Suitable for inline industrial use, enabling 100% quality control on production lines rather than sampling
  • Non-destructive, allowing further processing of tested components
  • Improves detection of process-induced defects (e.g., insulation failures or cutting burrs that increase losses)
  • Enables objective, automated sorting and documentation of defective parts based on preset thresholds
  • Reduces manual labor and subjective errors in traditional loss measurement techniques
  • Can compensate for environmental variations (e.g., temperature) for reliable, reproducible results

Patent Abstract

The invention relates to a measurement method for determining losses in iron cores (3), which function to produce magnetic circuits for electric machines. According to the invention, in order to permit a measurement that is precise and as quick as possible, a magnetic coupling is established between a measuring coil (21) connected in a capacitor (22) and an iron core (3) to be measured, and subsequently the measuring coil (21) is applied with an alternating frequency, in order to measure the resonant frequency of the resulting oscillating circuit (2) and/or the quality of the resulting oscillating circuit (2) as a gauge for the loss of the iron core (3).
