Method and Device for Generating Electrical Current and Use of an Organic Compound for Generating Electrical Current
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention presents a method and apparatus for generating electricity using a fuel cell system that employs organic compounds (such as unsaturated hydrocarbons or certain heterocycles) as hydrogen carriers. The process involves reacting the organic compound with water in an acidic environment to form a hydrogen-rich medium, which is then converted in a fuel cell to produce electricity and water. The system enables closed-cycle energy storage, as the spent medium can be regenerated for repeated use, offering higher volumetric hydrogen storage capacity and efficiency compared to conventional methods.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Power source for electric vehicles (cars, trucks, buses, trains)
- Electrical power generation in aircraft or drones
- Portable or decentralized power units for off-grid or mobile applications
- Energy storage solutions for renewable energy systems
- Back-up power supplies for critical infrastructure
- Small-scale or on-site hydrogen storage and conversion plants
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Significantly higher hydrogen storage capacity per unit mass and volume, boosting system energy density and range for vehicles
- Low or negligible CO2 emission during electricity generation, enabling greener power
- Reduction (or elimination) of carbon monoxide generation, which extends fuel cell longevity and performance
- Closed-cycle operation allows recycling of the spent medium, reducing waste and fuel costs
- Operates efficiently at moderate temperatures (0°C to 300°C), allowing flexible integration
- No need to transport or store elemental hydrogen, greatly improving convenience and safety
- System is weight-optimized and conducive to compact design, making it suitable for mobile and space-constrained applications

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a method for generating electric current, said method comprising the method steps: providing an organic compound having at least one double bond and/or at least one triple bond; reacting the organic compound with water in a reaction chamber (10) having an acidic environment to form an enriched hydrogen carrier medium; converting the enriched hydrogen carrier medium into electricity to form a depleted hydrogen carrier medium in a fuel cell (2), obtaining water; and providing electric current generated during said conversion into electricity.
