Device for combining surface model and volume model of objects e.g. human skull during orthodontic treatment, has model registrant that is provided to align models relative to each other, such that coverage measurement is maximized
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
This invention provides a device and method for accurately combining surface and volume models of objects, such as human skulls, especially useful during orthodontic treatment. It uses a system that selects relevant portions of both models and aligns them to maximize the overlap and accuracy of their combined representation.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Orthodontic treatment planning, where 3D models of a patient's skull are required
- Surgical planning for craniofacial or maxillofacial procedures
- Custom implant design using combined surface and volume data
- Medical imaging analysis for improved diagnosis
- Forensic reconstruction of skulls or other anatomical objects
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Improves the accuracy by maximizing the coverage between different model types
- Facilitates better treatment or surgical planning by providing comprehensive 3D representations
- Reduces errors caused by misalignment of medical images or models
- Enables more precise design of medical devices or implants tailored to the patient's anatomy
- Enhances ability to diagnose and plan by integrating multiple data sources into a unified model

Patent Abstract
The device (10) has a model analyzer (16) that is provided to respectively select portions (12a,14a) of models (12,14) corresponding to a reference geometry of an object. A model registrant (18) is provided to align the models relative to each other, such that a coverage measurement is maximized. The coverage measurement is maximized based on the distance between the portions (12a,14a) of models than the distance between a portion (12b) distant from and adjacent to the portion (12a) and a portion (14b) distant from and adjacent to the portion (14a). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for combining volume model of object with surface model of section of object; and (2) a computer program product for combining volume model of object with surface model of section of object.
