Polynary Metal Oxide Phosphate
Simple SummaryContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
The invention describes a new class of multi-component metal oxide phosphates, particularly of the formula Ma(VO)(P2O7)b(PO4)c, where M is a selected metal (such as Fe, Ti, V, etc.), which can be used as a catalyst for gas-phase oxidation reactions. One preferred example is Fe2VO(P2O7)(PO4). These materials have a well-defined crystal structure, characterized by specific x-ray diffraction patterns, and show improved suitability as catalysts, specifically for making maleic anhydride from hydrocarbons like n-butane.
Use CasesContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Industrial catalyst for the gas-phase oxidation of hydrocarbons to produce maleic anhydride (used in production of resins, coatings, and plastics).
- Catalyst for partial oxidation or ammoxidation of other hydrocarbons to produce chemicals or intermediates.
- Modification or enhancement of known vanadyl pyrophosphate-based catalysts for improved selectivity and performance.
- Use in multi-phase catalyst systems for increasing the efficiency and selectivity of targeted oxidation reactions.
BenefitsContent extracted from patent full text and abstract with AI.
- Provides a new class of well-defined, crystalline oxide phosphate catalysts with tunable properties by choice of metal 'M'.
- Enables efficient and selective production of maleic anhydride from n-butane and other hydrocarbons, which is economically and industrially important.
- Reduces issues associated with organic residues in catalyst precursors (as compared to traditional vanadyl pyrophosphate catalysts), resulting in more robust catalysts with improved stability.
- Can be produced with controlled phase composition and incorporated into existing catalyst systems for enhanced or tailored performance.
- Potential for use in a wide range of selective oxidation processes beyond maleic anhydride production.

Patent Abstract
The invention relates to a novel polynary metal oxide phosphate of general formula Ma(VO)(P2O7)b(PO4)c (I), wherein M represents one or more metals selected from the group including V, Ti, Zr, Hf, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Cu, Zn, Cd, Hg, B, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba, a has a value of 1.5 to 2.5, b has a value of 0.5 to 1.5, c has a value of 0.5 to 1.5, said novel compound having a crystal structure and being characterized by defined diffraction reflexes in powder X-ray diffraction. A preferred representative is Fe2VO(P2O7)(PO4). The metal oxide phosphates are suitable as gas phase oxidation catalysts, e.g. for producing maleic anhydride from a hydrocarbon with at least four carbon atoms.
